Shakespeare:Spiritual Values & Literary Criticism
Description: This
class will be presented in two parts. First semester will focus on studying
two comedies and two tragedies with a focus on spiritual values inherent
in each work. In addition, students will receive an overview of theater
in Shakespeare's day and a brief introduction to Shakespeare's life. Second
semester will be an introduction to literary criticism. Students will practice
applying the principles of literary criticism to personally selected comedies
or tragedies, with the end result being a critical essay on his/her selected
drama. This course will be rigorous and fast-paced requiring substantial
study time outside of class and is for highly motivated students with strong
reading and writing skills. 1 high school credit.
