Title:  Writing Fundamentals - Middle School

Description:   This course focuses on basic writing mechanics and grammar usage, effective sentence construction and combining, paragraph structure, and rhetorical strategies. Commonly confused and misused words are integrated as weekly vocabulary assignments. Students learn to write a variety of paragraphs: narrative, comparison and contrast, cause and effect, definition, process description, and persuasion. Students also write fiction, science, history, and biography (or autobiography) book reports. Essay contest participation is required for 7th and 8th grade students. Some assignments may be based on Jensen’s Format Writing, but the book is not needed.
